The Long Ride 2010

The Long Ride 2010 is a proposal to ride a combination of two cattle trails of the 1860’s - 70’s, specifically, the Goodnight-Loving and Western Trails, starting west of Dallas and terminating, possibly at Miles City in Montana, or, alternatively, subject to obtaining the necessary permissions, near the site of the Battle of Little Bighorn.

The route, on paper, is some 2000 miles and is expected to take 6 months or thereabouts.

The party will consist of a ‘core’ of five riders at any one time, with invitations extended to certain, special individuals to join us at mutually convenient times.

Currently, launch date is end of March/beginning of April 2010 from Fort Belknap, near Graham, Young County, Texas.

The trip is planned as a ‘one-off’, is non-commercial and therefore self-funding by way of riders ‘purchasing’ weeks on the trail.

This is a one-off opportunity for like-minded people to travel together, in the fashion of the cattlemen of yesteryear, along some historic trails and to put their riding skills to adventurous use.

Negotiations are currently underway to make a film of the ride, the book is already underway. I shall be re-visiting the States in December to continue with the fact-finding and discuss the possibility of producing the film , and will possibly be talking with radio stations along the route.
